There is a quilting buzz aboard Insignia!

Aboard our Around the World in 180 Days voyage, Hostess Tricia Blake recently announced the launch of the Around the World (ATW) Quilt Project. Exotic fabric and textile artist and professional quilter Anna Smith is offering creative input and inspiration while guests contribute to this quilting masterpiece.

Around the World Quilt Project launched on Oceania InsigniaAnna will be providing quilt-making instruction for beginners, guiding the ATW Quilt team during its formative stages. Anna has contributed fabrics from her recent visit to West African countries and guests are looking forward to fabric shopping in upcoming destinations. Anna has also discussed and displayed her colorful African fabric finds to a standing-room-only crowd in Insignia’s Artist Loft.

_MG_5474 (Medium)The quilt theme is Insignia’s epic 180-day Around the World voyage, featuring a global map in the center adorned with beautiful beads for each port visited. The quilt will also include photo transfer, embroidery, fabric pieces, drawing and a variety of quilting techniques. Guests are selecting which destinations they want to feature in their blocks with production underway. All participating guests will have their name included on a label that Anna plans to photo transfer and attach to the back of the quilt. Anna looks forward to her return to the Insignia with sewing machine when ATW guests will put all the blocks together for Anna to complete borders and assemble the layers of the ATW quilt with everyone sharing in hand sewing the binding around the quilt. At the end of the Around the World cruise, the ATW quilt will be raffled off with proceeds going to a charitable cause.

Guests have embraced this creative project with enthusiasm and have already begun assembling quilt blocks for the bedspread-size master quilt. This quilt will include 64 8-inch blocks representing destinations visited by the ship. Guests have been gathering during days at sea to share ideas and designs, and to plan future quilt blocks. New friendships are being forged and guests are helping one another with new ideas and fabric pieces to make this a very social and fun quilting project for both beginners and enthusiasts.

Stay tuned for ATW Quilt Project photos and updates in the coming months!
